When God Feels Distant

As darkness covers the land, Jesus cries out from the cross, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” quoting the opening line of Psalm 22. In that moment, Jesus is experiencing the full weight of sin and the separation it causes between humanity and God. The cry is not merely despair—it reveals that Jesus is stepping into our place, bearing the judgment our sin deserves. Because He was forsaken in that moment, those who trust in Him will never be.
