Make Us Uncomfortable

Aug 23, 2026    Mark Cress

Comfort is something we all pursue, but it can quietly become one of the greatest obstacles to obedience. The book of Haggai tells the story of God's people who received everything they had prayed for, including freedom from captivity and resources to rebuild the temple, yet sixteen years later the work remained unfinished. They were not openly rebellious. They simply kept saying the time was not yet right. God, in His love, refused to let them stay comfortable in their disobedience, and the moment they turned back and obeyed, He met them with His presence and provision. The question worth asking is not whether we have comfortable things, but whether our comfort has begun competing with our obedience.
