Lion Taming 101

Daniel's story in Daniel 6 is far more than a dramatic rescue from a lion's den. It is a portrait of a man whose decades of faithful, private devotion to God prepared him for one of history's most extraordinary moments. Even at 80 to 85 years old, Daniel's integrity and excellence made him a target for those who wanted him removed. When the decree was signed and his life was threatened, he did not panic or hide. He simply did what he had always done: he went home and prayed. His public courage was the direct result of his private communion with God. Faithfulness does not exempt us from suffering, but it does shape us into people who can walk through it with peace. The lion's den did not reveal a new Daniel. It revealed the Daniel that had been quietly formed over a lifetime.
